EDUCATION NEWS

  • Legacy High students led a hands-on anti-vaping event at their school to teach peers about the dangers of vaping tobacco. The event used interactive displays to spark discussions about health risks and smoke-free choices.  Bismarck Tribune
  • Legacy High School held the Cloud Free Carnival on Wednesday to engage students in countering teen vaping as part of the Take Down Tobacco campaign, with Stop the Cloud and Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health planning to gauge its impact through surveys.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Public Works has rolled out new yard waste drop sites for Bismarck residents starting April 1; drop-offs are available Monday through Saturday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm, and users must adhere to specific guidelines to prevent service disruptions (no commercial dumping and only accepted yard waste items).  City of Bismarck
  • Metal curb stops are emerging from sidewalks across the city this spring as thawed ground causes them to stick out & create obstacles for pedestrians and vehicles. Bismarck Public Works is on call to lower, repair or replace them, with most costs covered by a monthly utility fee.  KFYR-TV
  • Snow falls in Bismarck as the public works department waits for the accumulation to hit four inches so it can start a 12-hour cleanup operation (using 8 motor graders, 8 front-end loaders, and 4 sanders) that will clear emergency routes, schools, and residential streets.  KFYR-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials confirmed a case of measles in Ransom County that was likely acquired locally (unrelated to the Pembina County outbreak). State reports list 27 cases statewide and five hospitalizations, and officials stress that the MMR vaccine is the best protection.  KFYR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The USA Curling Junior National Championships are underway in Bismarck, drawing local fans into the curling spirit after last month's Olympics. Youth players compete in a friendly contest that highlights emerging talent.  KFYR-TV
