COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Julie Schirado from Furry Friends Rockin' Rescue drove on icy roads to introduce her new Australian shepherd Lainey in Bismarck today. Lainey is shy at first but will warm up quickly, giving future adopters a clear idea of what to expect from a herding dog.  KX News

  • A house fire on Wednesday afternoon displaced one resident in Bismarck.  Bismarck Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Los Mariachis Bar & Grill is now welcoming customers on Main Avenue with a Tex-Mex menu that features unique seafood dishes including shrimp, fajitas, and burritos. Owner Guillermo Saldana said the new restaurant is open after months of hard work.  KX News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Dakota gas prices fell over the holidays, with AAA reporting regular gas at $2.56 nationally now compared to $2.64 on Dec. 11; in Bismarck, prices remain slightly higher at $2.71 and the Energy Information Administration projects further declines into 2026.  KX News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Dakota Dollars for Scholars is accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors and college students starting January 1, with about $290,000 in awards available for the 2026-27 academic year (applications are due by April 1).  KX News
  • Bismarck State College announced the return of its football program after 40 years—officials say future meetings will detail game schedules and community opportunities.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bismarck is holding a Christmas tree collection from January 5-15 on its regular garbage days to recycle trees into wood chips. Residents must remove lights, ornaments, and stands before leaving trees for pickup by a separate truck.  KX News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rural hospitals remain alert as the CDC reports 2,000 measles cases nationwide, with 36 recorded locally. Lukas Fischer (CEO of Linton Regional Medical Center) said they are ready to boost precautions if the numbers rise further.  KFYR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • North Dakota Game and Fish reports strong fish numbers in local lakes, with near record walleye and steady pike counts as ice anglers are urged to use safety gear with nearly 1-foot ice. This Saturday and Sunday, residents can fish without a license + access lake maps online.  KX News
