- ➤ MSA United Way will start the new year with a family-friendly event on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 12 P.M. at the Center for Opportunity — volunteers will fill over 1,730 backpacks with food to help students have meals over the weekend. KX News
- ➤ Bismarck resident Jessica Gabriel finished second on Wheel of Fortune Monday night with $10,450 (she won $2,000 on a toss-up and solved puzzles in Pet Peeve and Pet Life rounds). KFYR-TV
- ➤ Ryan Gellner, outreach program director at ND Vision Zero, has received the National Community Champion Award from Impact Teen Drivers for his work to reduce road fatalities. The program, launched nearly eight years ago, has also earned a 2025 social media award as it leads safety efforts. KX News
- ➤ A new local business is holding a holiday craft event for kids and families in Bismarck. The hands-on event is designed to spark holiday cheer and offer a festive experience for community members during the season. KFYR-TV

- ➤ A National Weather Service hydrologist said that moderate winter temperatures keep the risk for Missouri River ice jams and flooding low near Bismarck, though a sudden plunge into single digits could rapidly change conditions — residents can sign up for CodeRED alerts via the NWS Radio app. KFYR-TV

- ➤ The USPS counter at Sunrise Family Fare on Yorktown Drive is now open after multiple satellite locations closed last September (confirmed Tuesday morning) to help ease long wait times. KFYR-TV
- ➤ ND Secretary of State Michael Howe approved a constitutional ballot measure petition that would require public schools to serve students a free breakfast and lunch — if petition signatures are submitted before Feb. 9, the measure will appear on the primary ballot, with later submissions placing it on the November ballot. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ CDC data show respiratory cases are slightly higher this year than last, with flu cases tripling and COVID-19 on the rise while RSV cases in infants and emergency visits remain lower. Flu vaccination rates have dropped about 10% compared to last year in North Dakota. KFYR-TV

- ➤ Bismarck State College has hired Chris Stutzriem — coming off seven seasons at Rocky Mountain College — as head coach for a football program set to re-launch in 2027, while Watford City girls basketball, led by Tom Dwyer, has scored a 5-0 start with a win over top-ranked Turtle Mountain.
