COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The former Borrowed Bucks building in downtown Bismarck will be repurposed as a new events venue, scheduled to open next year.  Bismarck Tribune

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A landslide in northwest Bismarck has closed River Road between Wilderness Cove Road and Sandy River Drive, and the Burleigh County Highway Department will begin cleanup once the slide stabilizes and weather permits later this week (mobile updates are posted) while drivers plan alternate routes.  KX News

CULTURE NEWS

  • ND Council on the Arts awarded over $1 million in FY26 grants to support local arts and education groups. The funds went to artists, schools, and organizations including an $80,000 grant to Arts Across the Prairie.  KX News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The NWS warns residents along the Missouri River in Bismarck and Mandan to prepare for a quick river rise due to ice forming below Garrison Dam; levels could jump from 4.1 ft to 9-11 ft Thursday when temperatures drop, so property owners should act now (NWS guidelines apply).  KX News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State highway patrol officials advise drivers to inspect their vehicles and carry emergency kits due to freezing rain and ice threatening travel before winter officially begins on Dec. 21. They remind rural travelers to check the ND Roads Map (updated three to four times daily) for current road conditions.  KX News
  • Bismarck Parks and Recreation District launched its redesigned website on Dec. 9 to meet accessibility goals and improve usability. The new site features an enhanced search function, park filter, and online access for registrations, reservations, and updates.  KX News
  • The Bismarck Fire Department shared holiday fire safety tips to help residents protect their homes and loved ones during the season. The advice includes checking smoke detectors and planning an escape route.  City of Bismarck
  • Crews are finalizing Memorial Highway’s winter setup today with cleanup and updated traffic signs; Basin Electric with NextEra Energy is exploring the River Run Energy Center—a natural gas plant for a data center campus planned for 2030. A Flasher freshman won a national FFA award last month.  KX News
