- ➤ Volunteers braved the cold on Thursday morning when they stood outside for 12 hours at the corner of Bismarck Expressway and South 12th Street as part of the Freezin for a Reason event organized by the Missouri Valley Coalition for Homeless People—supporting those experiencing homelessness. They collected cash donations, non-perishable food, warm clothing, blankets, and hygiene supplies. KFYR-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ North Dakota’s rural economy improved in November as the Rural Mainstreet Index rose to 45.7 from 38.7, though farmland prices fell (from 46.1 to 44.3) and exports declined 3.4% compared to last year. In the ten-state region, nearly one in three bankers said their local economy is already in recession and many expect a downturn in 2026. KX News

- ➤ Residents and state lawmakers shared views on a $181 million battery storage project planned 20 miles northeast of Linton that will store up to 140 megawatts from a nearby wind farm. The Public Service Commission will vote later on a siting permit—some lawmakers warned the project might hurt the agriculture community while local landowners expressed support. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Bismarck city engineers have revised the flood control plan to widen the drainage ditch from Wachter Middle School to the Missouri River instead of building a pond and pump station near the Clem Kelly Softball Complex (a change that avoids impacts on nearby businesses and park fields). - ➤ North Dakota agriculture officials are monitoring an outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus after horses in Texas and Oklahoma tested positive at recent barrel racing and rodeo events. - ➤ Dakota Square Mall reopened its Santa’s Workshop where visitors can take free photos with Santa and choose from photo packages including pet photos on Mondays—special guests like a Grinch-like figure may also appear. The station is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily except Sundays when it is open from noon to 6 p.m., and locals can also visit Santa at North Court until Dec. 24. KX News
