CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The St. Mary Sisters broke ground on the corner of Raymond Street and W Rosser Avenue on July 19 to begin their house of formation in the Cathedral District. A later approval raised the building’s planned height to 55 feet and the $14 million project—designed like a Tudor-style castle with 36 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a chapel—will start construction in March 2026. - ➤ North Dakota’s manufacturing slipped into contraction in October after 15 months of steady performance. Tariffs raised input costs and many firms reported layoffs — weak hiring and trade issues show that challenges continue for manufacturers. KX News

- ➤ The Mandan Braves band will travel to London to perform in the 41st London Parade on January 1st, 2027 after a routine meeting revealed a surprise invitation—making them the first North Dakota school to earn this honor. Band director Jon Baumann said the invite reflects the hard work of the students and families. KX News
- ➤ The ND Department of Public Instruction invites public comment on new charter school rules set by Senate Bill 2241—these rules cover school applications, lotteries, and annual reports. A public hearing will be held Tuesday, December 2 at 9:30 a.m. at the state capitol and comments will be accepted until December 15 at 5 p.m. CT. KX News

- ➤ Gov. Kelly Armstrong issued proclamations to mark November as a month of health and heritage across ND—naming observances like Native American Heritage, Adoption, Wild Game Meat Donation, COPD, Type 1 Diabetes, Pancreatic Cancer and Hospice and Palliative Care Months. National Adoption Day will be observed on Nov. 22 in three communities. KX News
- ➤ On October 30, Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed an emergency order to waive hours of service for drivers transporting fertilizer and other agricultural inputs amid facility delays and transport issues. The order, requested by Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, remains in effect for 14 days (safety rules still apply). KX News
- ➤ North Dakota Department of Transportation has announced its fifth annual Name-a-Plow contest to invite North Dakotans to submit funny or clever names for snow plows and meet the plows they name — each of eight districts, including Bismarck, Minot, Dickinson, Williston, Devils Lake, Fargo, Grand Forks and Valley City, will have one winner chosen by NDDOT staff. Contest submissions are open online until November 21. KX News
- ➤ North Dakota Department of Agriculture appropriated $230,000 for honey bee research funding for the biennium running from 2025 to 2027. Researchers will submit proposals on topics such as Varroa mites, nutrition, genetics and breeding, Tropilaelaps mites, and Nosema following a 10-page limit and detailed guidelines, with projects planned from Jan. 1st, 2026 through June 30th, 2027. - ➤ Hospitals and pediatric clinics statewide are reporting an early surge in respiratory illnesses among children, with doctors warning that RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and the flu cause signs like rapid breathing and bluish lips that may require emergency care. They advise parents to speak with their pediatrician soon about vaccines to protect kids this winter (helping to reduce hospitalizations). KX News
- ➤ Twenty-two rural hospitals, including Southwest Healthcare Services, have banded together as the Rough Rider Network—using combined patient rolls to negotiate lower prices for a mobile imaging truck that will help them survive. Bismarck Tribune
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Investcore is planning a new 55+ community in northeast Bismarck as part of the Silver Ranch development — the 1,280-acre project will have 140 homes with prices starting around $350,000; grading and underground work is set to finish this year while streets will be completed in summer. KFYR-TV
