COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Ministry on the Margins distributed around 3,000 pounds of food and served 25 new families this week—facing rising food insecurity as SNAP benefits are paused during the government shutdown. Behavioral health manager Kris Morrissette said the need for meat and dairy is high and expects demand to grow. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Since 2013, Sister Kathleen Atkinson has served the community by founding Ministry on the Margins to help people in transition, and she will retire Dec. 31. Father Joe Hubbard will begin as interim executive director on Nov. 17—she also plans to write a book about her ministry. KFYR-TV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Los Mariachis, a new restaurant serving traditional Mexican food, steak and seafood, opened Friday at downtown Bismarck’s former Butterhorn location—its owner returned to the city after years away and runs a similar spot in Sauk Rapids. KFYR-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Business leaders in the western region are invited to apply for one of three spots on the economic development board that helps shape growth in Williams, McKenzie, Mountrail and Divide Counties — candidates must submit a one-page document by November 18 — the board meets monthly and joins various regional events. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bismarck has bought back a nearly 100-year-old fire truck — a key piece of the city’s firefighting history that had been away for decades. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ Joshua Seil has served in the National Guard for over 20 years and works as a physician's assistant and coroner for Burleigh and Morton Counties—he will be promoted to major this winter as he continues his full-time commitment to community service. KX News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sanford Children’s Hospital brought Halloween celebrations to young patients by having staff in costumes visit every room and deliver small surprises. The event, called "Backwards Halloween"—where staff deliver toys and treats to patients—aims to provide holiday cheer to children who cannot take part in regular trick-or-treating. KX News
- ➤ State agriculture officials confirmed a new case of highly pathogenic avian flu in a commercial turkey flock in LaMoure County, making it the sixth case this year. The outbreak has led to a 30-day suspension of bird events—and county birds face restrictions until no new cases appear. KX News
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Julie Schirado from Furry Friends Rockin' Rescue introduced Sully—the small dachshund-mix in a puffy jacket found in an abandoned Mandan home—as he begins his journey toward adoption. The rescue will host Darts For Dogs & Cornhole For Cats on November 15th at Send-It in Mandan with registration starting at noon for darts and at 3 p.m. for cornhole. KX News
