- ➤ Great Plains Food Bank is launching an emergency campaign to raise funds and deliver an extra one million pounds of food when SNAP benefits pause on November 1. The organization will work with 196 partner pantries—expanding mobile and pop-up services to help families in high-need areas across North Dakota and parts of Minnesota. KX News
- ➤ Veteran Meagan Miller spent 15 years in the Navy—she was a top shooter on the USS Higgins and earned honors like Golden Shellback—before becoming a resource manager at Bismarck State College and helping fellow veterans transition to civilian life. KX News

- ➤ Non-stop flights between Bismarck and Orlando will resume in February when Allegiant Air begins twice-weekly service from Feb. 14 to April 4—passengers must book directly with the airline. KFYR-TV

- ➤ Mandan library got a $500K state tourism grant to build a new 3,100-square-foot Tourism Makerspace Hub for art, learning and culture — the library will stay open during work — and design will begin in 2026 with the hub opening in 2027. KX News

- ➤ Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told ABC he felt the pain of the 2025 soybean harvest when China had not yet bought, but ND Farmers Union president Mark Watne said his claim is odd given Bessent’s income from renting his farmland — valued between $5M and $25M with annual rents of $100,000 to $1M. Watne added a trade deal is not close — leaving farmers with depressed prices and limited crop insurance. KX News
- ➤ Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak said that federal talks for a potential trade deal with China have boosted soybean prices by about 20 to 30 cents, giving North Dakota farmers hope for a more stable market today. The deal remains in early stages—official decisions are pending as further discussions continue. KX News

- ➤ The state named Levi Bachmeier as superintendent of public instruction—he will share his plans for the department tonight during a KX Conversation with Keonia Swift. KX News

- ➤ North Dakota’s Winter Weather Awareness Week is underway as officials urge residents to review National Weather Service storm alerts (watch, warning, advisory) to prepare for hazardous conditions. KX will offer additional tips (including dressing safely) tomorrow as part of the campaign to help keep travel safe during winter weather. KX News
- ➤ Morton County announced on October 27th it is changing its emergency alerts system—switching from CodeRED to Hyper-Reach. Residents must enroll starting November 1 by calling or texting 701-498-1770, and CodeRED will remain until the end of the year with a full switch on January 1. KX News
- ➤ The North Dakota Department of Commerce is launching the Rural Catalyst Grant to spur economic growth in rural communities after the legislature approved $2.5 million for areas of 4,500 people or fewer. Applications open today at 3 p.m.—eligible groups must submit their proposals by January 7 at 5 p.m. CST. KX News
- ➤ The North Dakota Industrial Commission approved over $45 million in oil and gas research grants and $1 million in renewable energy grants to fund projects that boost production and test new enhanced oil recovery techniques — applicants must match at least 50% of the funding. Governor Kelly Armstrong, Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring led the 62nd round to support pilot tests and optimization programs across the state. KX News
- ➤ On Oct. 23, NDDOT crews shifted all lanes on Memorial Highway to move drivers from a temporary north roadway to new concrete on the south side — work that permits installation of a new water main and paving of the north lane. Flaggers directed traffic near 46th Avenue, and the lane changes near that spot are expected to finish by Nov. 23 — while the full project wraps up by 2027. KX News
