- ➤ Badlands Search & Rescue is organizing a one-day search for missing Renzo Bullhead on the Missouri River on October 30—volunteers with watercraft or local river knowledge are encouraged to join before winter sets in. Bullhead was last heard from on March 16 when he said he was crossing the train bridge between Bismarck and Mandan and did not reach his pickup point. KX News
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Pronto Chore won the Mandan Business Pitch Challenge after launching its app in July—Co-founder Vaughn Deinhart said the service has over 40 workers and will receive a $10,000 forgivable loan from the Mandan Growth Fund to expand its operations. KFYR-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ North Dakota law enforcement issued 665 citations in September's 'Put the Phone Away or Pay' campaign (367 for distracted driving, 112 for speeding, 79 for other violations, 35 for seat belt issues, 12 for driving with suspended licenses, plus two DUI and two drug-related arrests) to reduce distracted driving and improve road safety. - ➤ Wishek is booming as the Ørsted wind power project brings in hundreds of workers who are filling hotels, campgrounds, and rentals—city leaders plan more similar projects to boost local business while watching their sales tax shift. - ➤ The North Dakota Department of Transportation's Wrong-Way Detection Project is a finalist for a national award, using advanced camera-based technology to spot vehicles traveling the wrong way on high-risk ramps and alerting law enforcement. It will compete for the Grand Prize and People’s Choice Award with online voting open until Nov. 17 — the winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize for a transportation-related charity or scholarship. - ➤ Governor Kelly Armstrong on Tuesday appointed Levi Bachmeier as the state's new superintendent of public instruction—he will now lead the public schools. Bismarck Tribune

- ➤ North Dakota Health and Human Services is warning families during National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week that nearly half the homes in the state may have lead hazards that can harm young children. The agency launched a new website with tips and is testing a school curriculum to help avoid dangerous lead exposure—small amounts can lower IQ and cause learning problems. KX News
- ➤ More than a thousand participants are attending the Behavioral Health and Children and Family Services Conference in Bismarck in person and online as the event runs from October 20 to 23.
