- ➤ Anita Bertsch retired, ending a long family legacy of delivering mail across North Dakota + her departure marks the end of a multigenerational tradition of service. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ Emilia Burnham, the 2025 American Honey Princess, will tour North Dakota from Oct 19—25 as part of the Agriculture in the Classroom program to teach about honeybees and pollination. She will appear at Papa’s Pumpkin Patch in Bismarck on Oct 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. where visitors can meet her, take photos, and sample local honey. KX News

- ➤ Work crews hit a water main on 40th Avenue Southeast in Mandan around 10:15 a.m. (water shot 15 feet high) and left businesses from 32nd to 40th Avenue without water until repairs restored service at 3:15 p.m. (the break was fixed later that day). KFYR-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A Theodore Roosevelt library will open near Medora on July 4 with exhibits that explore his achievements and controversies—its design mirrors the rugged Badlands landscape that inspired him. The nearly 100,000-square-foot facility has raised $344 million toward a $450 million goal from major donors and plans to host educational events and special programs. KX News

- ➤ AARP hosted a four-hour Smart Driver Course on Tuesday at Mandan Golden Age Senior Center that taught drivers new techniques such as proper mirror adjustment and managing distractions—another session will be held on Oct. 23 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at House of Prayer in Bismarck. KX News
- ➤ High school students attended Sanford Health’s Aspire conference at the Bismarck Event Center to explore health careers. They joined breakout sessions, practiced CPR, and received guidance from healthcare professionals — college representatives were also present to offer advice. KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Dakota Game and Fish Department is offering refunds to hunters in units 3E1, 3F1, 3F2, 4E and 4F due to a mild outbreak of epizootic hemorrhagic disease in white-tailed deer that began in early September. Hunters with eligible licenses must mail refund tags to the Bismarck office by Nov. 7 and report dead deer through the online system—officials may expand eligibility if the outbreak continues. - ➤ The North Dakota Housing Finance Agency hosted its first homeless conference, Partnerships for Progress, at the RJ Bohn Armory in Bismarck on Oct. 14—bringing together service providers, housing professionals, and community partners to build lasting statewide partnerships. Organizers said the event laid the groundwork to expand efforts to end homelessness in the state. KX News

- ➤ Legacy boys soccer team is set to defend its state title as they face Grand Forks Red River tomorrow at 12 p.m. at the tournament in Mandan — the team holds a record of 16 wins to 1 loss and has not lost a match since Aug. 23 while earning the top seed from the west. KFYR-TV
