EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On October 7, the University of Mary held its largest Day of Service when 1,502 students, faculty, and staff helped at 76 sites from local nonprofits to farms—part of its Vision 2030 mission. The university canceled classes to allow full participation in projects that reached communities near and far. KX News
- ➤ On Wednesday, Doosan Bobcat donated a robotic welder to BSC’s advanced technology center so students studying automation gained hands-on experience—workers hosted a plant tour that showed kids how robots are changing manufacturing techniques. KX News
- ➤ North Dakota schools are receiving a new student behavioral health toolkit designed by the Department of Health and Human Services for National Bullying Prevention Month—this three-phase resource guides educators from school-wide prevention to targeted support for individual students. KX News
- ➤ Baesler will resign as state superintendent to join the federal education department, and officials said the search for a new leader will begin only when the shutdown ends (Governor Armstrong will name an interim until the next general election). KFYR-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Brian and Vicki Maddock of a 4,000-acre ranch have been named winners of the North Dakota Leopold Conservation Award for their decades of sustainable ranching and environmental care. They will receive a $10,000 prize at a ceremony in December—an honor given by the Sand County Foundation and American Farmland Trust. KX News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Furloughed federal workers and armed forces personnel in North Dakota will qualify for a short-term, low-interest loan program administered by the Bank of North Dakota to cover their base net pay during the shutdown. The program opens applications on October 10 and will run until January 9 or until Congress provides funding, and eligible participants must show ID & a recent pay stub from their local lender. - ➤ Chairman Grassley said the FBI obtained call data from eight GOP senators and one House member’s cell phones for the Arctic Frost probe, gathering details on call times, durations, and general locations from Jan. 4 to Jan. 7. - ➤ A new fire station on Aurora Loop in northern Burleigh County is now open to reduce emergency response times — offering modern living quarters and extra space for trucks as the community grows north. - ➤ Bismarck Burleigh Public Health is running a drive-thru vaccine clinic that doubles as an emergency training ground to practice vaccine delivery, traffic flow and patient screening—helping staff improve emergency response.
