- ➤ On Saturday night, a fire at a multi-family building on West Sweet Ave displaced two families and caused about $40,000 in damage—responders arrived at 8:00 p.m. and found heavy smoke in a second-floor unit while residents had evacuated safely with no injuries reported and the cause deemed accidental. - ➤ Charity Lutheran in Bismarck carries on an 800-year tradition of blessing pets—a practice that honors Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. The church invites community members to bring their pets to seasonal blessing events. KFYR-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is offering modern agriculture STEM kits to middle and high school teachers, which include lessons from the National Ag in the Classroom Matrix and robotic components and are available on a first-come—first-served basis. Teachers must apply online by October 31 as Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said the kits will let students explore a different side of agriculture. KX News

- ➤ North Dakota agriculture officials confirmed that palmer amaranth has been found in Adams County after a producer noticed the weed while mowing a field's edge. The noxious weed can spread quickly — officials urge growers to monitor their fields to protect crop yields. KFYR-TV
- ➤ September 2025 set a record with 20 tornadoes touching down in central North Dakota on the 14th—two EF2s had winds above 100 mph, yet no injuries were reported while some areas saw rainfall more than twice the monthly average. North Dakota ended the month with an empty Drought Monitor map for the first time in three years, as Bismarck had its 8th wettest September and Dickinson recorded one of its driest. KX News

- ➤ Local government commissions and committees will meet this week to review municipal budgets plus Bismarck's extraterritorial area and other local issues. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ The Bismarck-Burleigh Commission committee will meet tomorrow in the Tom Baker meeting room at the City/County Office Building to discuss reducing the Extraterritorial Area that covers parts near Arnold — near Rock Creek, the airport, Atkinson Nature Park and Apple Creek Country Club. - ➤ Eight new NDHP troopers graduated from the North Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy and will begin field training today after taking an oath and receiving their badges from NDHP Superintendent Daniel Haugen. They will be assigned duty locations after training+this milestone marks the start of their careers in law enforcement. KX News
