COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Julie Schirado from Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue introduced her new dog Sparky at the KX News studio. The rescue will be at PetSmart today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—they will also host Mutts and Marys at Main Street on October 5 from 9 a.m. to noon. KX News
- ➤ Bismarck Parks and Recreation has updated the tennis courts at Lions Park by resurfacing them and adding pickleball lines—hoping both tennis and pickleball players will benefit from the new facility. Executive director Kevin Klipfel said the changes will help accommodate growing interest in the sport. KFYR-TV
- ➤ The Bismarck Event Center spent $4.6 million to install 3,000 new seats with cup holders in the lower bowl while replacing over 20-year-old blue seats using a telescopic retractable system. The project began in June and has now been completed—upgrades also included improvements to the electrical system and fresh paint. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Bismarck police walked at Solheim Elementary School Friday—part of the Cops and Crafts program, they led a drawing exercise that taught empathy and built trust with fourth-grade students. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Today, Ministry on the Margins hosted a citywide event where more than two dozen groups shared resources to help new ex-offenders find jobs and housing. Director Nathan Mickelson said legislative efforts will improve reentry programs—helping former prisoners stay healthy, sober, and employed. KX News

- ➤ Local photographers captured fall moments in September as festivals, fall sports, and new opportunities emerged in Bismarck-Mandan—showing the seasonal change that brought excitement to the community. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ The Bismarck Historical Society will host a free public program about the history of the Bismarck Fire Department in the lower level of the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library on Oct. 8 at 6:30 PM—guest presenter Chris Anderson and retired Battalion Chief Rob Carlson will share historic photos and key milestones from its 153-year service during a two-hour presentation. - ➤ The State Archives is showcasing key documents like the original state Constitution saved from the Capitol fire of 1930 and a telegram from 1889 during American Archives Month+ staff will host a genealogy class to help residents explore their family history. KFYR-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Xcel Energy is asking for a 19.3% rate increase that will raise the average bill by about $22—its first hike in four years—and the Public Service Commission will hold public input meetings on Oct. 13 at noon and 6 p.m. at locations including the state capitol and Minot City Hall. KFYR-TV

- ➤ Knife River Corporation said the East Century Avenue project remains on schedule despite weather delays—52nd Avenue is fully paved and major concrete paves took place last Saturday with additional sessions planned for Thursday and today while work east of Roosevelt Drive is 80% complete before final sidewalk and shared-use path construction begins.
