- ➤ Mr. Akipa, an internationally known flute artist, is leading a workshop in Fort Yates where participants learn to craft flutes and understand the cultural meaning of native songs—this second workshop will open to the community next year as schools begin teaching Native American history under SB 2304. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ North Dakota’s manufacturing economy showed resilience in September as its Creighton University index remained above growth neutral at 51.4—marking the 15th month of growth. The state led the region in manufacturing exports by shipping $3.7 billion in goods through the first seven months with petroleum products topping the list. KX News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bismarck State College said athletic director Myron Schulz will retire Jan. 2 after four years as he led the school’s move to the NAIA and added 12 sports for student-athletes—this decision comes as the college immediately starts searching for his replacement. KFYR-TV
- ➤ University of Mary has reported a record enrollment of 3,973 students for the 2025-26 academic year, including 1,296 new students, marking its highest number in 66 years. The school noted growth in undergraduate, graduate and online programs and is building a $45 million Marauders Athletics Complex—a project set for completion in fall—while launching a Catholic Montessori Institute that will host a national conference from October 16 to 18. - ➤ At 4:30 p.m. on October 1, 2025, the traffic signal at Tyler Parkway — Burnt Boat Road was back in operation and all lanes were open. Officials said the current fix was temporary and a permanent repair will occur later this year once replacement parts arrive. City of Bismarck
- ➤ The Bismarck Expressway has reduced lanes between Washington Street and 3rd Street due to repairs that uncovered water leaks—westbound lanes may open early next week while eastbound lanes remain reduced for three weeks. City of Bismarck
- ➤ Former City Commissioner Steve Marquardt announced his run for mayor on Tuesday—he plans to focus on affordable housing using his 18 years of public service experience.
