- ➤ On Tuesday, three Morton County deputies did push-ups at Eide Ford in Mandan to raise money for five-year-old Colter Hanson who has Stage 4 Burkitt lymphoma—an effort inspired by Corporal Zack Aguon’s own battle with cancer. Captain Bryan Steele, Deputy Garver, and Corporal Aguon completed 104, 83, and 77 push-ups in two minutes, and Eide Ford will donate nearly $800 while still accepting donations for the family during the month. - ➤ Starting October 2, the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library will hold a fall used book sale through October 4 where used books will cost $1 per pound. On Saturday, patrons can fill a bag for $3—CDs, DVDs, games and puzzles will be priced separately to support library projects. KX News

- ➤ Little Cottage Cafe in Bismarck closed permanently after its owners, Bob and Wanda Serr, announced Tuesday that health concerns + a need to slow down ended their 29-year run. KFYR-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, artist Melissa Gordon finished a new mural on the wall of Zimmerman’s Furniture clearance center in downtown Bismarck, commissioned by Odney to mark its 40th anniversary (featuring the year 1872, Otto von Bismarck, and local wildlife). She prepped the over-100-year-old building by fixing cracks before painting (restoring a peeling wall) to brighten the area. KX News

- ➤ Bismarck Public Schools hosted its third annual career fair at the Career Academy where over 700 high school students visited local department booths, including fire, engineering, and police displays—giving them a firsthand look at local professional opportunities and new career paths. KFYR-TV

- ➤ Yesterday, Gov. Kelly Armstrong told the Tribune that his office is preparing for a government shutdown as a midnight deadline approaches. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ Lawmakers took time on September 30 to review how the state can better support human trafficking victims — providers reported survivors need stable housing, mental health care, and ongoing case management while the committee discusses policy and funding improvements. KX News
- ➤ North Dakota Department of Transportation announced that mobile ID is available through Apple, Google, and Samsung, letting residents upload their IDs for TSA checkpoints at 250 airports — five in the state. The service costs a $5 fee for first-time use or renewal and is said to be very secure. KX News
- ➤ North Dakota lawmakers held a hearing on September 30 to study how easy access to pornography may affect kids and families — experts said that early exposure can change how young people view sex, consent and relationships and urged future prevention measures. KX News
- ➤ Steve Marquardt, a former BPS board member and city commissioner, announced his run for mayor and said he is focused on addressing homelessness and property tax issues—he will work with community partners and keep taxes low. He will run against incumbent Mayor Schmitz in an election set for June 9. KX News
- ➤ North Dakota Game and Fish Department launches its Hunt for Tomorrow campaign to urge hunters to practice ethics by respecting private land rules—officials call on experienced hunters to mentor newcomers for sustainable hunting practices. KX News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health will host the Break Free Youth Action Summit at the Bismarck Event Center on Oct. 7 for about 150 students and their advisors to learn ways to prevent tobacco use—Samuel Allen from Truth Initiative will share his experiences and leadership ideas. After the summit, the students will work with their peers on events for the Great American Smokeout and the Great American Spit Out—steps that aim to create a tobacco-free future. KX News
