CULTURE NEWS

  • North Dakota Tourism announced a partnership with local country duo Tigirlily Gold to create a new song called Call It Home—A Song for North Dakota that echoes the state’s 'Be Legendary' brand and invites visitors to see its Midwest spirit. The sisters from Hazen, known for their hit single Shoot Tequila, will help promote the state's unique charm in the upcoming campaign.  KX News
  • A food truck in Mandan now brings Puerto Rican and Filipino flavors after reopening from a wooden trailer in 2016 and selling 100 sandwiches in one day to build local support. It operates on Fridays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. near Burger King — owner Carlos Alicea said the season will end soon as temperatures drop while expansion plans are underway.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library has launched the Potluck Book Club where members read different books based on monthly themes—meetings begin on October 8 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. every second Wednesday and are free for all ages.  KX News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists say trees change color as shorter days and cooler weather slow chlorophyll production and let yellow and red pigments show. Extra rain and warm fall days may push Bismarck’s peak foliage to around October 10—while sunlight, temperature, and soil moisture also affect the change.  KX News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak will host a virtual town hall on Monday, September 29. North Dakotans must sign up by 8 a.m.—the forum will begin at 12:00 p.m.  KX News
  • Bismarck held a Public Works Equipment Operator Roadeo on September 24 to train local operators safely before winter. Heavy Equipment Operator Gary Steiner won the top prize for the second time in three years — Jared Schwab and Chad Stroh also won their events among 55 competitors.  KX News
  • The Small Business Administration said that low-interest loans will be available to private nonprofits in North Dakota hurt by storms on June 20 and 21. Eligible nonprofits may receive up to $2 million at 3.625% interest—loans that accrue no interest for the first 12 months with applications due by Nov. 10 for physical damage and June 11 for economic injury.  KX News
  • Bismarck will build its sixth fire station in South Bismarck near Burleigh Ave. and Calypso Dr.—cutting response times from six minutes to four minutes. Some residents worry about siren noise, and construction is expected to begin in 2026.  KFYR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No.1 Bison beat No.17 South Dakota 51-13—Cole Payton passed for 273 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for 102 yards while Barika Kpeenu scored twice. The team will face Illinois State next week as the Redbirds are ranked No.5 in the FCS Coaches poll.  KFYR-TV
