COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tracy Kershaw from Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue introduced her new dog Elsa at the studio; the stray once stole blankets to keep her puppies warm and is slowly learning to trust people. The rescue will attend Teddy Roosevelt Family Days on Sunday, the 28th at McDowell Dam—offering adoptions for both cats and dogs.  KX News
  • Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library will upgrade its restrooms to meet ADA standards—this project, funded by donations, will bring modern design and improved functionality to the facility.  KFYR-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters quickly contained a small fire Friday morning at a multi-family residence on the 1800 block of Allison Drive—residents evacuated safely while crews checked for hot spots and investigators looked into the cause.  KX News

  • The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber EDC hosted its annual Celebrate Bismarck-Mandan event on September 25th, honoring local businesses and individuals for innovation and community impact. Awards were given to groups such as Copper Dog Cafe and Moore Engineering, Inc.—highlighting achievements in both small and large business sectors.  KX News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Dakota soybean fields are nearly ready for harvest but farmers face market uncertainty—China, the largest importer, is not buying and 3 million bushels may sit idle while prices drop. Local farmers plan to store the crop as they wait for a trade deal to ease pressure on earnings.  KX News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frannie Tunseth, a reading and math teacher at Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg Public School, was named North Dakota Teacher of the Year by Governor Armstrong and State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler at the state Capitol on Friday afternoon—she was chosen from four candidates across the state. She has also served as an elementary principal and is known for using short videos to help eighth graders learn—demonstrating creative teaching methods.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Engineer Gabe Schell said heavy rains have flooded southern Bismarck streets and overwhelmed sewers while the city finalizes plans for the South Flood Mitigation Project—expected to start mid-2027 to early 2028. The project will move many homes out of the floodplain and may include new measures like rain gardens to curb stormwater flow.  KFYR-TV
  • The North Dakota Legislature needs a special session to manage $500 million in federal rural health funds for the Rural Health Transformation Program — a new 33-member committee led by Sen. Brad Bekkedahl will meet Oct 14th-15th to review the application plans. Gov. Kelly Armstrong and lawmakers are still deciding who will call the session as the state must obligate the funds before January 2027.  Bismarck Tribune
  • The Metropolitan Planning Organization invites residents from Central Dakota to review its draft 2050 Transportation Plan as public comments, which opened on Sept. 26, are accepted until Oct. 27 — a public meeting is scheduled for Oct. 23 at 4:30 p.m. at Minot City Hall in the City Council Chambers.  KX News
  • Bismarck city officials announced an extra week for free disposal at the landfill from Sept. 29 through Oct. 4 and said residents must show a current utility bill or valid driver's license—tire disposal will have a fee.  KFYR-TV
  • Starting Monday, September 29 after 8:15 a.m., eastbound Bismarck Expressway will be reduced to one through lane between Washington Street and 3rd Street for roadway repairs—workers expect the work to take two or three days weather permitting with no detour planned.  City of Bismarck
