COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Bismarck Historic Preservation Committee honored Cathedral Area and Highland Acres with new streetlight banners designed to showcase each neighborhood's rich history and charm. City staff said the banners capture the well-kept landscape of Cathedral Area and the nostalgic architecture of Highland Acres + celebrate each area's unique heritage.  KFYR-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Taiwanese delegation announced at the U.S. Capitol that Taiwan will buy $10 billion in U.S. produce including soybeans, corn, wheat & beef. Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak said the deal is a win for North Dakota farmers, highlighting local soybean growers as China negotiations proceed.  KX News
  • North Dakota oil leaders now see data centers as a good way to use extra natural gas—officials at the Petroleum Council meeting said projects like Rainbow Energy’s 2,100-megawatt plan near Underwood will help power new data centers and ease worries that gas growth would slow oil production.  Bismarck Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The North Dakota Industrial Commission expanded the Grain Storage and Facility Rebuilder Program from Bank of North Dakota to offer loans to farmers and ranchers hit by the August 7 and 8 storms. The program has given over $17 million to 65 producers and has an extra $5 million pending — it accepts applications through local lenders until December 31.  KX News
  • Congress must fund the federal government by September 30 to avoid a shutdown that will begin on October 1 and furlough 5,736 federal workers in North Dakota and close five federally run sites including Theodore Roosevelt National Park—House lawmakers passed a continuing resolution to fund the government until November 21 but the Senate did not pass it.  KX News
  • North Dakota Highway Patrol Lieutenant Jenna Clawson Huibregtse was recognized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police for her leadership and service in their 40 under 40 list. She joined the highway patrol in May and now leads the Safety and Education Division as the only North Dakotan honored among officers from eight countries.  KX News
  • The North Dakota Department of Transportation's Vision Zero Schools campaign was recognized with the 2025 AAMVA Communications Social Media Award for its push to promote safe, distraction-free driving among high schoolers—marking the second time the project has gained international recognition as noted by NDDOT Highway Safety Division Director Karin Mongeon.  KX News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Bismarck Marathon held its 44th event with over 1,900 runners registered and several roads closed for the race. Organizers said the event started at the Capitol—its third year beginning at that location.  KFYR-TV
  • Ross Tolstedt, a 65-year-old runner, celebrated his 35th year at the Bismarck Marathon by finishing his race in 4 hours and 40 minutes last Saturday and saying he will keep running as long as he can. He runs weekly with his group (which has supported him through 50 marathons) and plans to continue his long history in the race.  KFYR-TV
  • Ben Enzminger finished the relay as part of team Ben at Saturday's Bismarck Marathon relay, cheered on by his therapists, teachers, and friends (a strong support team). He overcame a brain injury from birth (his mom said he never let it hold him back) and inspired everyone around him.  KFYR-TV
  • Today, the North Dakota Fighting Hawks defeated Valparaiso 58-7 in Grand Forks—Jerry Kaminski passed 13 of 19 times for two touchdowns, with Deng Deng scoring his second, as UND reached its five-hundred win record. The team will have a bye next week and will open conference play against Northern Iowa in two weeks.  KFYR-TV
