ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ James and Jennifer Meyer, in their 40s, keep the family farm running in North Dakota at a time when most farmers are nearly 60 – they back programs to help young farmers start and hope that their 10-year-old daughter will continue the tradition. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Leaders in the gas and oil industry met for the second day at the North Dakota Petroleum Council Annual Meeting in Watford City—Chevron will merge with Hess next month to bring new technology and ideas to the Bakken region. State officials said a new pipeline will help reduce natural gas flaring as drilling moves farther from the core, with operations set for 2030. KFYR-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality has given $2.8 million in EPA grants to fund projects that will help clean water sources in the Maple River, Bowman-Haley, and Park River watersheds—applications for these grants will be accepted until November 1. Emilee Novak encouraged local residents with water or soil concerns to contact their county water boards or soil conservation districts for more details. KX News
- ➤ The National Weather Service confirmed that 15 tornadoes hit central North Dakota on Sept. 14—no injuries or fatalities were reported. The strongest, rated EF2, struck Emmons County near Beaver Bay Recreation Area while another EF2 near Denhoff traveled 18 miles, damaging barns and mobile homes. KX News

- ➤ Burleigh County and Bismarck city commissioners have proposed a new ETA map that will remove 95% of residences from the extraterritorial area to resolve the conflict by October 31. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ Yesterday, road construction began on Yegen Road between Hagen Avenue and University Drive and on a portion of Lincoln Road to reduce lanes for a project expected to last about one week—weather permitting. Flaggers directed drivers exiting Lincoln north or south on Yegen Road, and officials urged motorists to follow posted signage. KX News
- ➤ North Dakota waterfowl hunting season will begin on Sept. 27 for residents and Oct. 4 for nonresidents, with licensed hunters starting swan hunting on Oct. 4. Hunting hours for geese run from half an hour before sunrise to 2 p.m. daily and extend until sunset on Saturdays and Wednesdays—hunters must carry required stamps and clean gear to prevent the spread of aquatic nuisances. - ➤ Minot native Andrea Travnicek was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday as Assistant Secretary for Water and Science in the Interior Department—she will rejoin Doug Burgum, having served as Director of the Department of Water Resources under his governorship. KFYR-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ At Theodore Roosevelt National Park, officials reported that on August 30 a two-year-old female wild horse lay down and could not rise, and after staff helped her the next morning she was euthanized after testing positive for West Nile Virus. KFYR-TV
- ➤ During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Jim Foote—who lost his 17-year-old son to osteosarcoma—started First Ascent Biomedical to create personalized cancer treatment plans as current protocols remain unchanged since the 1970s. His company began clinical trials in 2019 and now offers its service to patients while local groups in Bismarck will host fundraisers, art therapy classes, and Apple Jam on Sept. 21. KX News
- ➤ Bismarck’s new respite center will open October 1 in the old Railway Credit Union building in downtown Bismarck—after delays from flooding and a fire postponed its earlier start. The facility will provide temporary recuperative care for homeless individuals leaving hospitals and help reduce emergency room use. KFYR-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Mia Fiechtner is a young multi-sport athlete—she won a player of the tournament award in softball and helped her team reach the state championship in Minot. She learned the game from her stepdad and practices every day to improve her pitching and court skills. KX News
- ➤ Southern McLean meets Central McLean tonight in Washburn as the teams renew their trophy rivalry after more than a decade—coaches say the contest will boost playoff hopes. Players report they will run the ball and play physically to earn the new trophy—each side eager to hopstart their season. KFYR-TV
- ➤ The 44th annual Bismarck Marathon will take over the State Capitol Grounds on Sept. 20 with sold-out races—featuring new rally points that celebrate the music of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s—and thousands of runners from 47 states and four countries, while registration for all races closes Thursday at 11:59 p.m. KX News
