- ➤ Monica Hannan, a longtime KFYR-TV anchor, announced her retirement after 43 years of reporting in North Dakota—she will step away from journalism later this month. Bismarck Tribune
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Over the weekend, a tornado outbreak tore through Sheridan County and damaged homes — one home was hit so hard only its basement remains livable while trees fell along a 12-mile stretch and a state record of 19 September tornadoes was set — and officials reported no injuries as damage assessments continue. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Costco announced a recall of its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene because unopened bottles may shatter when not in use. The recall affects bottles sold from April 25—August 26—covering multiple states, and customers will receive a full refund when they use a recall letter at any store. KX News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ At Earth Lodge Traditions in Mandan, the On-A-Slant Indian Village celebrated 450 years of Native American heritage — hosting archery, presentations, and live demonstrations that allowed families to learn about traditions that remain part of our community. KX News

- ➤ North Dakota is celebrating National Truck Driver Appreciation Week from Sept. 14 to 20 to honor truck drivers who keep the economy moving and work to keep roads safe—Don Huckins from Marvin Windows and Doors is among those recognized. - ➤ Bismarck State College has received a $75,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Trust—it will use the funds to purchase 3D imaging and sterilization equipment for its new dental clinic that will serve underserved youth. More than 100 prospective applicants have already shown interest in the dental hygiene program as it seeks accreditation. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Career Academy Silver Ranch opened Tuesday on Noble Drive in Bismarck with a ribbon-cutting event attended by Governor Armstrong, Mayor Schmitz, and Superintendent Fastnacht. The academy gives students hands-on training in agriculture and construction and has a planned expansion for more advanced courses—aimed at keeping local talent in the region. KX News

- ➤ Mandan Public Works crews began fixing water main breaks in two parts of Mandan on Monday evening—residents and business owners faced temporary water outages and reduced pressure while drivers experienced traffic delays as crews worked to restore service safely. KX News
- ➤ Burleigh County Commission approved its final 2026 Budget Monday night and set plans to lower the county portion of property taxes by 75% using revenue from the new sales tax—bringing the total budget to just over $99 million and trimming funds for public health, roads and other projects. The commission postponed action on creating its own public health division. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Today, the Bismarck Historic Preservation Commission installed new streetlight banners in the Cathedral Area Historic District and added 14 more in Highland Acres after residents requested them. - ➤ The North Dakota Department of Transportation will close all Driver License offices on September 23 and 24—and the Bismarck motor vehicle office on September 23—for employee training. Online services and all other motor vehicle functions will remain open. KX News
- ➤ Burleigh County Commission approved the final 2026 budget on Monday after a five-hour meeting in which they trimmed $7.2 million from the initial $104 million proposal to reach a roughly $97 million plan that exceeds this year’s $80.3 million budget. Commissioners maintained the 75 to 25 public health cost-sharing agreement and directed officials to draft a home rule charter amendment so the property tax buydown funded by a 1% sales tax benefits only local residents — one commissioner dissenting over cuts. - ➤ The Bismarck Parkinson’s support group will host its annual seminar in Mandan on September 18 at the Baymont Inn—Suites from 9:15 a.m.—3:15 p.m. The event will feature over two dozen exhibitors and guest speakers while offering four-hour continuing education credits for healthcare professionals.
