- ➤ Papa's Pumpkin Patch opened its 42nd season today on Fernwood Drive — welcoming families with over 30 pumpkin varieties and outdoor play options until October 25 as it operates daily from noon to 7 p.m. KX News
- ➤ The Bismarck Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Week Open House on October 9 at Fire Station Four, 4103 Miriam Drive from 4:00—7:00 p.m. The free event will include auto extrication and firefighter demonstrations as well as a mini challenge course for kids to learn fire safety. - ➤ Residents of Mandan and Bismarck can drop off eligible items free at city landfills during Free Fall Landfill Week running September 15—20 and must show proof of residency to avoid fines. Families can also enjoy fall fun as Berry Acres Pumpkin Patch reopened this season with hayrides and corn mazes and Papa’s Pumpkin Patch, which opened Sunday, offers half-price Thursdays. KX News

- ➤ A possible twister tore apart a farm storage shed near Cannon Ball on Sunday afternoon, and the owner said no one was hurt while equipment was damaged—tin and rafters flew several yards away—and he reported the upcoming harvest will start as scheduled. KFYR-TV

- ➤ Four finalists were named for the 2025 Mandan Business Pitch Challenge—each startup will pitch its idea later this year to secure funding. The competition will continue with rounds of presentations before a panel of business leaders. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ Erin Dewitz turned a nearly 100-year-old tourist camp in Steele into the modern Nineteen26 Campground & Lodging by renovating motel rooms, adding a campground with 14 sites with water and electric, and converting an old service station into a store that sells North Dakota-made goods—a project started after purchasing the property in September 2022. The family-run business now offers themed suites with kitchens and TVs to welcome families, hunters, and travelers. Bismarck Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On September 13, NDDEQ received notice of an emulsion spill from a Hess pipeline about 4 miles northwest of Stanley that released an estimated 840,000 gallons over an agricultural field—officials are still inspecting the area with no reports of water source impacts. KX News
- ➤ A severe storm swept across central North Dakota on Sunday and broke the state’s annual tornado record. Damage was documented by officials — the highest count recorded so far this year. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ National Weather Service personnel surveyed three tornadoes in central North Dakota that hit on September 14. Two tornadoes—one in the Denhoff area and one about 13 miles west of Linton—received preliminary EF2 ratings, while the tornado near Mercer was rated EF1; additional details on winds, paths, and damage will be released soon. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization has presented its 2026-2029 Transportation Improvement Program that will upgrade major roads and bridges in our area. The plan includes an $18.5 million widening of South Washington Street in 2026—along with a $6.5 million renovation of the Memorial Bridge in 2027—with federal and local funds supporting the projects. - ➤ The Bureau of Land Management announced over $38 million from oil and gas revenue on 23 parcels across North Dakota and Montana, with 10 parcels covering more than 7,604 acres in North Dakota. Additional leases will be offered in October until the first quarter of 2026 — this sale was larger than the previous quarter's $34 million in revenue. KX News
