- ➤ Leah Wheeling, a Simle Middle School physical education and digital literacy teacher, was named a finalist for North Dakota Teacher of the Year on September 10 and now awaits the winner announcement scheduled for September 26 at the State Capitol Building—she has taught at Simle for 12 years and earned honors like Burleigh County Teacher of the Year. - ➤ Students at Mandan High School spent their lunch break Wednesday writing messages of remembrance for loved ones lost to suicide and hanging them from a Remembrance Railing outside the school. The event, held as part of Suicide Prevention Week on campus + offered guidance on crisis resources and support for students in need. KX News

- ➤ North Dakota Game and Fish said pheasant numbers fell by 3% from last year while remaining 48% above the 10-year average; grouse and partridge numbers dropped 38% and 26% after severe summer weather, and hunting seasons start Sept. 13 for grouse and Oct. 11 for pheasants, closing on Jan. 4. Leftover turkey licenses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 8 a.m. Sept. 17, and Minot International Airport is hosting a TSA PreCheck enrollment event through Friday—membership costs $76 for five years with a $15 off for additional members—. - ➤ Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health in partnership with Heartview Foundation will host a free Narcan training at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17—at 407 S. 26th St. where participants will learn to recognize opioid overdoses and each will receive a Narcan kit. City of Bismarck
