- ➤ Firefighters responded Monday evening to a blaze at a home on South 15th Street that caused over $40,000 in damage to its detached garage—four occupants evacuated safely and no injuries were reported. KX News

- ➤ Today, Native American performers will give a cultural dance and drum presentation at the Bismarck Event Center as a preview for the International Powwow at United Tribes Technical College later this weekend — organizers say the show will explain the indigenous drum, dances and regalia to visitors. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ North Dakota high school juniors or seniors are urged by State Superintendent Kristen Baesler to apply for the U.S. Senate Youth Program and build leadership skills. The application deadline is midnight Monday, October 20th—selected participants will receive a $10,000 scholarship and attend Washington Week from March 7th to March 14th. KX News
- ➤ The Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library is asking residents to sign up for a library card during Library Card Sign-Up Month in September—this card gives access to free classes, technology resources, homework help, streaming media and cultural events. KX News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ranchers near McKenzie have increased soil carbon storage using rotational managed grazing and may earn carbon credits as studies by scientist Rebecca Phillips and partner Lewis Heaton show higher productivity and improved land health. Phillips is now expanding research near Hazelton to gather more data on how better grazing practices can add value to cattle — a breakthrough that could shape future sustainable ranching. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bis-Man Transit made permanent its trial change to the orange route based on positive public feedback. The eastbound bus leaves the Front Avenue transfer point, travels east on Front Avenue, turns north on 9th Street and east on Broadway Avenue, then south on Airport Road until it reaches 31st Street and continues east on Rosser Avenue to the transit facility—while the westbound route remains unchanged. - ➤ State officials announced Tuesday that six North Dakota communities received $23.4 million in low-interest loans through the State Revolving Fund programs — funds that will help upgrade water systems in Minot, Kenmare, Jamestown, West Fargo and Grafton. The SRF programs are partly funded by the EPA — loans are provided under the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act to improve aging infrastructure. KX News

- ➤ Health officials warn North Dakotans that the wetter season has increased the risk of Lyme disease from ticks like the deer tick and wood tick, advising that tweezers be used for removal—this is the most effective method. Safety officials noted that while overall injury claims have dropped by 30 percent over the past decade, catastrophic claims have risen and 59 West Nile virus cases have been confirmed from mosquito bites.
