COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds gathered on Labor Day at the North Dakota State Capitol lawn to protest for fair wages and a government that puts people over billionaires — they held a peaceful, two-hour rally uniting veterans, union members, and longtime activists. Many said the protest was a call to defend democracy and support working families.  KX News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 28-year-old Bismarck motorcyclist fled a traffic stop for not having a license plate shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday when he drove southbound from I‑94 on State Street, struck a concrete curb near Divide Avenue, and sustained serious injuries—North Dakota Highway Patrol said.  Bismarck Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Dakota will not open any charter schools this year as state education officials work on licensing them for next year. The Department of Public Instruction is drafting rules and an application process with a public hearing planned by the end of the year—officials say the guidelines will include state funding that follows the student and strict non-discrimination standards.  Bismarck Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Labor Day, North Dakota celebrated its workers while also warning of workplace risks—North Dakota Workforce Safety and Insurance noted that overall injury claims dropped by about 30% over the past decade even as severe and fatal claims increased. The agency reported roughly 17,000 claims each year from jobs in energy, agriculture, construction and transportation.  KX News
  • Bismarck residents can share feedback on city safety and police performance during the biennial Citizen Survey open through October 1—this input will help police shape future policies and community initiatives.  KX News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Amanda Bakken warned Bismarck residents that tick activity remains high because the wet summer has boosted their presence—especially in brushy, grassy areas—and urged people to remove ticks with tweezers. Deer tick and wood tick are the two main kinds that can spread Lyme disease.  KX News
