- ➤ Sleepy Hollow Theatre is applying for a $5M grant to build a permanent roof over its outdoor stage — the plan will lower annual upkeep costs and fix the warped wooden floor caused by winter weather. The project, which includes a 50-foot airplane door to secure the stage during storms and host indoor events, aims to extend the season and draw more visitors. KX News

- ➤ On September 1, Bismarck offices, the landfill and the hazardous waste and electronics recycling center will be closed for Labor Day—garbage and recycling on the gold route will be delayed by one day with items set out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day. The landfill will reopen Tuesday through Saturday and the recycling center will resume service Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday, while residents can get free disposal between September 15 to 20 by showing a recent utility bill or valid driver’s license. - ➤ The North Dakota Department of Commerce said the application window for the 2025 Destination Development Grant Program will close on September 2 at 5 p.m. Eligible organizations are encouraged to apply to use one of three funding options from a $15 million grant to support tourism, recreation, and cultural projects. - ➤ Former Mayor Marlan Haakenson is challenging the city’s decision to enforce a one-year deadline on his petition to roll back property taxes and water bills to 2018 levels—he said he was first told there was no time limit for gathering signatures. Haakenson has asked the ACLU to review the case and possibly sue the state, legislature, and attorney general—city officials maintain that state law sets the limit to secure funds for essential services. - ➤ A flood protection project is nearing completion at the Wastewater Treatment Plant as treated water begins redirecting today through a drainage system beneath Tavis Road into the Missouri River to keep the plant safe during high water events. Officials advised the public to avoid swimming or drinking near the discharge area and said the project meets state and federal rules while a gate structure will be built in ten days—adding extra security. - ➤ North 4th Street was closed between East Avenue D and East Avenue E at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, when City Forestry Division crews removed two boulevard trees—drivers were advised to use alternate routes—without a detour provided. KX News

Trinity Health Foundation reopened its Nursing Scholarship Program with awards tied to work contracts and the ND United Foundation saved teachers $137,200 for professional development—steps that support public health and education statewide.
