ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 19-year-old man from Bottineau died late Saturday night when his Chevy Silverado hit a broken-down semi-truck on 80th Street North near Upham. The DOT warned drivers to watch for slow-moving farm equipment during harvest—while the Game and Fish Department opened fall turkey hunting license applications with a deadline of September 3.  KX News

  • A Bismarck man accused of possessing meth in July pleaded not guilty on Tuesday—charges followed a shoplifting report that led to his arrest.  Bismarck Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mandan High School DECA students will host the annual Capital City Invite on Sept. 5 at Bismarck State College. The full-day event will feature competitions, workshops, and speeches from Lt. Gov Michelle Strinden and guest speakers Alex Chislii, Jade Sherr, Patrick Bertagnolli, and Marlo Anderson—local media will cover the event.  KX News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The ND DOT reminded drivers to use extra caution this fall due to farm equipment on the roads—preliminary 2024 data shows 42 crashes involving such vehicles. They advised motorists to wear seat belts and maintain a safe distance while watching for debris and mud.  KFYR-TV
  • A bipartisan group of 44 Attorneys General, including Drew Wrigley, warned big tech companies that their AI systems may expose children to sexual content as noted in a letter that highlighted Meta’s tool flirting with kids as young as eight—threatening accountability for any harm caused.  KFYR-TV
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong proclaimed Tuesday, Aug. 26 as Women’s Equality Day to mark 105 years since the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote—she noted that North Dakota granted early voting rights on key issues and that Secretary of State Michael Howe certified the proclamation.  KX News
  • The North Dakota State Capitol still uses a mail chute from 1934 that carries letters from the 16th floor to the ground floor by gravity—mail specialist Darcy Hoff monitors the system and fixes stuck letters using a yardstick.  KFYR-TV
  • The City of Bismarck is selling three Class D Liquor Licenses. Sealed bids must be submitted before 3 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the City Administrator’s office with a minimum bid of $200,000—the lowest bid allowed—to let sellers offer a full range of alcohol.  City of Bismarck

HEALTH NEWS

  • Federal money from the Big Beautiful Bill and the Rural Health Transformation Fund will support rural health care, with North Dakota set to receive $500 million over five years from a $50 billion grant—officials say the funds will upgrade emergency rooms, clinics and labs as the state gathers public input ahead of the October rollout.  KFYR-TV
