COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Keelboat Park in Bismarck is set for change as redevelopment plans move forward—two landmarks are being relocated with the Thunderbird sculpture moving to United Tribes Technical College and a replica keelboat shifting to Pioneer Park—while local teens and motor enthusiasts hope the park keeps its unique charm. Developers have not revealed details about the new design, and the project remains in the bidding phase with no groundbreaking date set.  KFYR-TV
  • Central Dakota Humane Society is adding a new building to ease overcrowding and speed adoptions (the facility will include 40 larger dog kennels, covered play yards and a veterinarian area) and will complete the project by October as part of a $4.5 million campaign.  KFYR-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In July, more than 122,000 passengers flew out of North Dakota airports — a 9% increase from last July. Upgrades and a strong local economy helped boost travel, with over 776,000 passengers recorded year-to-date.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The North Dakota United Foundation helped over 2,700 members enroll in professional development courses during the 2024-25 school year and saved $137,200—covering the $50 per course fee. Teachers must earn six credits every five years, and the foundation reduces the financial burden of this requirement.  KX News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wet summer has nearly ended the drought across North Dakota—officials report that heavy rains have reversed the dry conditions seen earlier this year.  Bismarck Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction on the new BNSF rail bridge in the Bismarck-Mandan area will resume this fall when teams start pile driving at two river piers on the Bismarck side—this work is key to finishing the project.  Bismarck Tribune
  • Farmers and ranchers are busy during harvest season as the NDDOT Vision Zero program warns drivers to slow for large, slow-moving farm equipment on rural, two-lane roads—calling for safe distances and careful passing. The department advises motorists to wear seatbelts, watch for debris and check for road closures due to ongoing construction.  KX News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Papa’s Pumpkin Patch will open in about three weeks for its 42nd season on September 14 in Bismarck. The fall event offers nearly 30 pumpkin varieties and farm play spaces (including hay rides and bale mazes) and will run daily from noon to 7 p.m. until October 25, weather permitting.  KX News
  • Fall turkey hunting season will begin soon as turkey tags are down by about 235 due to severe weather—hunters must tag any bird they bag and experts note the big tom is a favored target. The deadline to apply is September 3.  KX News

  • Chad Berger, owner of Chad Berger Bucking Bulls, will be inducted into the National Rodeo Hall of Fame at a ceremony on November 8th in Oklahoma—he has earned 12 PBR Stock Contractor of the Year Awards and is already a member of two other rodeo halls of fame.  KFYR-TV
