CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Woofstock celebrated its 9th anniversary today and added DockDogs — an event where about 30 to 40 dogs, including rescue dogs like Lily, jump for visitors to watch at Buckstop Junction from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Tuesday, Aug. 26, the City of Mandan will completely close the intersection of Memorial Highway and 46th Avenue SE for reconstruction that includes upgrading water mains and installing storm sewers. Traffic will be redirected with head-to-head flow on the north side—drivers can use detours via 21st Street SE and the McKenzie Interchange until at least the week of Sept. 22. KX News
- ➤ The City of Bismarck announced that beginning Monday, Aug. 25, Sweet Avenue and Indiana Avenue will be closed at Third Street for concrete work and traffic will detour via Fifth Street — Bowen Avenue, with the closures lasting until the end of the week. When the avenues reopen, crews will close intersections at Bowen and Arbor for additional concrete work for about one week while Airway Avenue will also close between Burlington Drive and Northern Plains Drive for sewer line work. - ➤ Sen. John Hoeven met with Gen. Thomas Bussiere at Grand Forks Air Force Base and GrandSKY to promote Project ULTRA and introduce legislation for a pilot drone program to resupply remote nuclear missile facilities near Minot—this proposal is part of the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act. He said the initiative is expected to start counter-UAS work later this year and support a future intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance mission in the region. KX News
- ➤ The North Dakota State Historic Preservation Review Board will convene at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug 29 in Classroom B at the North Dakota Heritage Center and State Museum to review nominations for the National Register of Historic Places, including a proposed amendment that expands Fort Totten State Historic Site’s narrative. The meeting is open to the public with remote access details available by request — the amendment adds the site's history as an Indian boarding school, community school, and tuberculosis preventorium. - ➤ District 25 of the GOP in Richland County faced leadership turmoil after its April meeting broke party rules with proxy voting and an at-large system — causing its exclusion from the June reorganization meeting. A new meeting on Aug 12 restored order when Evans was elected as chair — though his team has yet to fill the seat left open by Schreiber-Beck’s death. Bismarck Tribune

- ➤ DermaRite Industries has recalled hand hygiene products after contamination with Burkholderia cepacia was found — a bacteria that can cause serious infections for those with weakened immune systems.
