  • State wildlife officials did not count any male sage grouse during their 2025 survey—raising worries about the birds' future. They said habitat loss and West Nile Virus have hurt the population for many years, with numbers not strong since the 1950s.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Dakota officials awarded a decade-long $500 million financial guarantee to MDU for a proposed natural gas pipeline project that will cross the state — the backstop will support MDU’s plan if the project moves forward.  Bismarck Tribune
  • The Rancher’s Rights Initiative is suing Governor Kelly Armstrong and the Beef Commission over how its nine members are picked—claiming that unaffiliated ranchers are not fairly represented. A trial will be held next August as previous legislative attempts to change the process have failed.  KFYR-TV
  • Today, Vision Zero in Bismarck released a list of safe driving tips for the back-to-school season that urge drivers to slow down, give space, and share the road with young off-highway vehicle riders near schools (families are advised to check helmets and review safety habits).  KX News

  • Mandan native Jaxon Duttenhefer was named one of six football captains for NDSU ahead of the 2025 season—he is the only captain from North Dakota. The Bison will start their season on August 30 at The Citadel.  KFYR-TV
