ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Bismarck Rural Fire Department responded to a stubble field fire off Blue Spruce Road Tuesday evening and contained the blaze while crews from Bismarck, Mandan and the North Dakota Forest Service worked to put out hot spots — no one was injured.  KFYR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Bismarck police responded to an active bomb threat downtown—authorities are investigating the incident and urging caution.  Bismarck Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Harlow’s Bus Service is fully staffed to begin the school year for Bismarck Public Schools after reducing routes that previously led to driver shortages—though it is still accepting applications for additional drivers.  KFYR-TV
  • Students in Bismarck and Mandan went back to school Tuesday for the academic year 2025—2026. Bismarck Public Schools updated start and end times, revised bus routes and posted a new calendar of breaks while Mandan Public Schools published its instructional schedule.  KX News
  • Students started classes yesterday at Mandan High School as part of the Bismarck and Mandan school districts' new school year. All schools now ban cell phone use from bell-to-bell—Principal Mark Andresen said the rule may take time for students and parents to adjust.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Emily O'Brien was named deputy commissioner of the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services effective today. She represented District 42 since 2017 and served on the Human Resources Division of the Appropriations Committee, and she will oversee a performance measurement system—tracking agency funding and liaising with the Legislature—to align programs with the department’s goal of making North Dakota the healthiest state.  KX News
  • Twenty-one Soldiers from the North Dakota Army National Guard competed at the annual Best Warrior Competition at Camp Grafton Training Center from August 14 to 17. Sgt. Richard Tangen of the 957th Engineer Company and Spc. John Shrock of the 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment earned top honors and will advance to the Region VI Best Warrior Competition next year—showing how the event tests military skills and readiness.  KX News

HEALTH NEWS

  • CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck will offer Aquablation—a robotic surgery that uses a high-pressure water jet to remove prostate tissue and help men avoid lifelong catheter use. The procedure is scheduled for Sept. 3 and typically takes about an hour with an overnight stay before patients resume normal activities within one to two weeks.  KX News
  • Health officials report that West Nile virus cases are rising with 33 infections and 19 hospitalizations, and they advise residents spending time outdoors to wear long-sleeve clothing and EPA approved bug repellent—especially during sunrise and sunset.  KX News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ricardo Aponte was named the 2025 Lark of the Year by the Bismarck Larks for his leadership and strong hitting this season. He hit .276 with 33 RBIs and played multiple positions (earning a $500 scholarship and a custom chain) as a key team member.  KX News
