CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Bismarck woman was arrested after police responded around midnight on August 13 to a stabbing near Ministry on the Margins that injured a man with a severe lower back wound and a woman with a minor cut—suspect Summer Lebeau now faces two counts of Class C felony aggravated assault as the investigation continues. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bismarck State College (BSC) was picked for the Metallica Scholars Grant for the second year in a row. The college will use the $50,000 award to support programs in industrial automation, robotics, mechanical maintenance technology, and auto collision with applications due (Sept. 5). KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Bismarck Police Department reminds drivers to follow school zone laws including a 300-foot turnaround ban, a 20 MPH speed limit during recess, and stopping for school buses—while new school hours require extra caution on the roads. KX News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ North Dakota Health and Human Services will break ground on Monday, August 18th at 3 p.m. for the new North Dakota State Hospital on the east side of 12th Ave SE to replace the aging facility at 2605 Circle Drive, which no longer meets modern safety standards. The modern hospital is planned to have 140 inpatient beds & various treatment and support services as part of Phase 4 of a five-phase project with no opening date set. KX News
- ➤ On Wednesday, ND HHS launched a survey to shape its Rural Health Transformation Program, which will invest $500 million over five years to improve rural health care. The survey is open to residents, health care providers, tribal partners and community groups until Sept. 12—paper surveys are available by contacting Ashley Gerving at 701-328-2354. KX News
- ➤ A new FDA-approved Lenire treatment for tinnitus is now offered at the Alliance Center for Hearing in Bismarck, where patients use a Bluetooth headset and tongue stimulator in daily sessions. Dr. Amanda Leddige said the therapy reroutes the brain's response to ringing sounds—making tinnitus feel less harmful—although it is not yet covered by insurance. KX News
