ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 25, a piece of the HVAC system at Burleigh Morton Detention Center caused part of the building to fill with smoke; the fire department responded and safely evacuated everyone—no one was hurt.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The North Dakota State Fair is marking 60 years since Minot was chosen as its home with a new throwback logo showing the old fair entrance — the design features the iconic Sunny Nodak. Plans are underway for next year's fair, which will start on July 17.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The North Dakota State Fire Marshal’s Office is urging long-term care providers, families, and caregivers to review oxygen safety protocols after a deadly fire in a Massachusetts assisted living facility killed 10 residents earlier this month. The office warns that oxygen therapy can make flames spread faster—small Thermal Fuse Cutoffs can stop oxygen flow if tubing ignites.  KX News
  • Crews in Mandan delayed the water main replacement for the Street Improvement District 235 project because severe weather and an undisclosed issue have pushed work to next week—residents are asked to turn off water-using appliances to prevent damage. A man in Stanley admitted to killing his friend and received a 20-year sentence, while a terminal study shows that Bismarck Airport will begin an expansion in a few years as passenger numbers rise.  KX News
  • The Bismarck City Commission unanimously approved the city’s 2026 preliminary budget Tuesday — the plan estimates expenses near $485 million and general fund revenues of about $71.2 million. A public hearing is set for Sept. 9th — property taxes are projected to earn $36.7 million but will leave a gap of over $4 million for public safety funding.  KFYR-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • In February, an 80-year-old woman woke up with severe leg pain and swelling and was rushed to the hospital where doctors removed her big toe and part of her second toe to stop a dangerous infection—this emergency surgery saved her life. She recovered with antibiotics and care at home and now walks without a walker while planning to dance with her husband after their 60th anniversary.  KX News
