- ➤ Bismarck's planning department has been allocated nearly $400,000 from the Community Development Block Grant program to support rehab and property improvement projects for low- and moderate-income residents. The funds—distributed to Aid, Inc., Burleigh County Council on Aging, Bismarck Public Schools, Ministry on the Margins and UspireND—will bolster community initiatives and local infrastructure. - ➤ The Department of Commerce announced on Wednesday that two tech startups received a total of $345,000 from the Angel Match Program run by the North Dakota Development Fund — Verdethos received $95,000 for working capital and Highpass got $250,000 to expand its marketing. KX News

- ➤ Canticle Productions announced the feature film Hazel will premiere in Bismarck on September 26—this film tells the heroic story of 15-year-old Hazel Miner, who died in a 1920 blizzard while keeping her siblings safe. Additional screenings will be held in other North Dakota cities this fall. KVRR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ND Secretary of State Michael Howe filed his brief Tuesday arguing that the 2021 district map should be used instead of the proposed 2024 version. The Supreme Court may review the district lines near Belcourt and Devils Lake — with authorities from 14 states supporting Howe’s position and the NAACP backing the tribes' concerns. KFYR-TV
- ➤ The National Guard and Bismarck Fire Department held helicopter familiarization training on July 23 to help first responders learn to shut off fuel and power and safely remove pilots and passengers during emergencies. - ➤ Jason Stugelmeyer, a 24-year veteran of the department, will become the new police chief on August 1 after a unanimous city commission vote—his extensive experience helped him stand out among five candidates.
