EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Mary hosted the GNDC 2025 National Civics Bee North Dakota State Finals where seven students competed in two rounds of civics questions. Clara Z. of Erik Ramstad Middle School won first place with a $1,000 cash prize and will advance to the nationals in Washington, D.C. — marking the first time a North Dakota student will compete on this national stage.  KX News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Relatives of a North Dakota World War II serviceman who died as a prisoner of war have learned that his remains have been identified 80 years after his death—providing long-awaited closure to a family legacy.  Bismarck Tribune
  • The Bismarck Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizen Police Academy from anyone who lives, works or attends school in the city and is at least 18—with applications available until August 17. The academy will offer three-hour classes on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning September 11 and ending November 20.  KX News

SPORTS NEWS

  • A Furry Friends rescue dog, Lily—a three-year-old pit bull found in North Dakota—competed at the DockDogs World Championships and appeared on NBC for the Purina ProPlan Incredible Dog Challenge. Once afraid of water, she now takes part in dock diving events with her new Florida family.  KFYR-TV
  • On August 28, the Bismarck Depot will host Midwest All-Star Wrestling with six matches featuring 12 to 14 wrestlers — the event brings high-energy, all-ages entertainment. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with the first match at 6:30 p.m., and tickets go on sale on July 18 with presale access on July 17 — only 750 tickets are available.  KX News
