- ➤ The Bismarck Rural Fire Department launched its new Bucket Brigade Program Friday—offering free buckets at local fireworks stands to promote safe disposal and reduce fire risks for Fourth of July celebrations. The North Dakota State Fire Marshall’s Office and local retailers support the initiative while residents may also attend the Red, White, and Boom display at the MDU Resources Community Bowl. KX News

- ➤ At its Thursday meeting in Devils Lake the North Dakota higher education board approved salary increases of 3 to 7 percent for seven college and university presidents and set a biennial budget. Board members noted an $800,000 budget impact from past separation agreements and expressed concerns about future spending on hiring a new chancellor. Bismarck Tribune

- ➤ Last night, Bismarck saw its first tornado in years when a storm touched down in a field behind Fleet Farm near 57th Avenue. Joshua Lawyer said his family left home as they watched the tornado form — a rare sight after 13 tornadoes hit the state last week. KFYR-TV
