CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested at Simonson Gas Station on June 11 after he allegedly threatened a victim with a baton and attempted to steal money—police said he fled on his motorcycle before a traffic stop led to his capture in Bismarck.  KX News
  • A former mayoral candidate—who owns a local transportation company—was arrested Tuesday for alleged financial crimes involving over $50,000 in Medicaid funds and had a $5,000 bond set by Burleigh County District Court.  Bismarck Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • The North Dakota Heritage Center is restoring a fragile 45-star flag carried by the First North Dakota Infantry during the Philippine-American War in 1898—an effort led by textile conservator Ann Frisina brought in by the state society. The restoration will stabilize the damaged silk flag for future visitors to learn about this early piece of state history.  KX News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A five-year study tracking elk movements in western North Dakota was completed by the ND Game and Fish Department and the University of Montana using GPS collars on 149 elk to collect over one-million location points. The results showed cow elk have a range of about 50 square miles and bull elk about 70 square miles, data that will help guide future management in the badlands.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. House passed a $9.4 billion rescission package by a 214—212 vote that cuts federal funds for public broadcasting and may force local stations like Prairie Public to reduce programs. The bill now heads to the Senate for further review.  KX News
  • More than 1,550 customers lost power in Bismarck along East Divide from 16th to 23rd Street when an equipment failure burned a power pole on 22nd Street—sparks were reported from power lines. The outage began at 5:07 p.m. and power was restored by 6:20 p.m.—MDU Resources responded promptly to the incident.  KFYR-TV

  • Bismarck Larks pitcher Hunter Crain is returning to the mound today after recovering from a torn ACL that sidelined him for two years. He also launched Hunter Crain Designs—his custom shoe business with orders waiting as he prepares to resume play in Arizona.  KFYR-TV
