COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bismarck chaplain Greg Carr organized the printing of 300 yard signs that read We support and pray for our first responders to honor local firefighters, EMTs, police officers and other emergency personnel. The new free signs come after a previous batch was quickly claimed from lawns – the grassroots effort shows strong local support.  KFYR-TV
  • Bismarck’s Expressway Tunnel—transformed into a vibrant corridor—features a 1,600-square-foot mural created by local artists and 688 residents during 14 community paint parties in Fall 2024. The public will be invited to the official unveiling on June 18 at 4 p.m. near Sertoma Park, with parking available in the south lot.  City of Bismarck

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Bismarck Police squad car overturned Tuesday evening when it was hit by a Subaru Outback towing a small boat near the intersection of Airport Road and Expressway in south Bismarck — both drivers suffered minor injuries and eastbound traffic was diverted for about one hour as the North Dakota Highway Patrol investigated the crash.  KX News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gateway to Science in Bismarck is offering weekly STEM camps for students in grades 1 to 9 where kids experiment with projects like extracting DNA, building hydraulic arms, launching rockets and programming robotics. The camp will run through August 16 and offers full-day and half-day sessions — each week brings new hands-on activities to boost student confidence in science —.  KX News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Burleigh County Commission considered funding options for the planned Provident Building remodel—delaying a final decision until they learn if the county qualifies for a state loan.  Bismarck Tribune
  • North Dakota passed a new law that requires porn sites to verify user age before showing content. The law goes into effect on Aug. 1 — non-complying sites may face lawsuits and a pending Supreme Court case could challenge the mandate.  KFYR-TV
  • On June 3, Governor Kelly Armstrong signed a bill requiring schools to have emergency cardiac response plans that include AEDs & trained CPR personnel, with all schools needing to comply by 2027. Tony Burke from the American Heart Association noted that the measure comes after several sudden cardiac incidents near school properties.  KFYR-TV
