- ➤ Friends of the Bismarck Public Library will host a used book sale on May 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Meeting Room A at the library—attendees can buy children’s, teen, and adult books at $1 per pound or at set prices—to support library programs. City of Bismarck
- ➤ Bismarck Street Outreach is a joint program from Ministry on the Margins and the Heartview Foundation that drives through the city twice a week to offer hygiene kits, water, snacks and local resource information to people facing homelessness or instability. The team builds trust by meeting individuals in places like alleys and parking lots—actions that may expand with more funding—while also holding open access support hours on Tuesday afternoons. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The EPA proposed to let North Dakota manage coal ash disposal in surface impoundments and landfills after the state’s application met federal standards. Public comments on the proposal will be taken for 60 days— a public hearing is set for July 8 at 9 a.m. KX News

- ➤ At its Tuesday meeting, the City Commission did not vote on the zoning change for Misty Waters after a nearly two-hour discussion and instead told staff to revise the map to address homeowners' concerns—staff will work with property owners and present a revised plan at the June meeting. - ➤ More than 300 public assistance workers attended a full-day training last week to learn ways to help families apply for Medicaid and food assistance. The state department hosted simulations to show challenges faced by people in poverty and raised over $1,000 for the Great Plains Food Bank—organizers said the training built empathy and improved service delivery.
