CRIME NEWS

  • A Bismarck man was convicted of attempted murder after a two-day trial that began when he was accused of stabbing another man in June 2024.  Bismarck Tribune
  • The North Dakota Supreme Court denied the appeal of a Mandan teenager sentenced to life in prison for a fatal shooting at a Bismarck motel in 2022—upholding his conviction.  Bismarck Tribune
  • A trial is underway today in Bismarck for a woman accused of negligent homicide after a 2022 crash on the Expressway killed a 56-year-old Mandan man.  Bismarck Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Mary’s Senior class of 2025 executed a school prank on Monday morning by parking a car through the front entrance and lining it up in the hallway—administrators approved the stunt after students signed the windows.  KFYR-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Over the weekend, 60 fires burned more than 1,100 acres as crews from local, state, and out-of-state agencies fought the blazes—one fire near Glen Ullin burned 500 acres while another near McClusky burned 125 acres. In the Turtle Mountain area, the active fire complex has spread over 3,600 acres and Red Flag Warnings remain in effect.  KX News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Reconstruction of the Sanford Hospital loading dock area along Seventh Street in Bismarck will impact traffic at times for much of the rest of the year.  Bismarck Tribune
  • Garrison Dam reduced its releases from 21,000 cfs to about 12,000 cfs Monday night to help recover a tugboat that sank on the Missouri River last week. Releases will hold until noon today—river levels near Bismarck will drop about one foot by Wednesday—and flows will resume Wednesday and rise to 24,000 cfs on Friday.  KFYR-TV
  • A memorial service honoring 69 fallen peace officers will be held at Memorial Hall in the State Capitol on May 15 at 7 p.m.—Governor Kelly Armstrong, Attorney General Drew Wrigley and other officials will speak, and Capitol windows will be lit with a Thin Blue Line on May 15 and 16. The public is invited to attend as the state pays tribute to officers who served North Dakota.  KX News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Evolve Mental Health in Bismarck began offering an FDA-cleared Prism treatment for PTSD three weeks ago that uses a cap with electrodes to track brain activity. Patients learn calming techniques to manage their symptoms — they call the clinic for appointments — and early users are hopeful about its impact.  KFYR-TV
