CRIME NEWS

  • Jamie Barnes, an 18-year-old from Bismarck, led a chase in Jamestown on Saturday morning before he crashed and was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license, possession of stolen property and a marijuana infraction—police said he had fled from law enforcement in Bismarck the previous night and that drugs may have been a factor.  KFYR-TV
  • The state Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Jesse Taylor, Jr.—tried as an adult for the fatal Sept. 2022 shooting at a Bismarck motel—confirming his life sentence with the possibility of parole remains in effect.  KFYR-TV

  • Morton County Commission will hold three public hearings to reveal the final design for Memorial Plaza and the War Dead Monument—sessions will be held on May 12 in Flasher, May 13 in Hebron, and May 19 in Mandan to include a project overview, design team presentation, and public questions.  KFYR-TV
  • Lawmakers passed contentious energy bills at the Capitol that set a regulatory framework for critical minerals and extended a tax break for coal plants — moves designed to boost state energy development despite anticipated legal challenges from affected landowners.   • North Dakota lawmakers eased tensions during a busy legislative session by using humorous traditions— a stuffed cat named Cat Perkins appeared on a senator’s desk with a playful poem while a wooden spoon was passed among representatives after memorable moments.
