  • Bismarck officials announced that the Fourth of July celebration, called Red, White and Boom, will be held at the Community Bowl on the campus of Bismarck State College — the move comes because of Capitol construction, and the event will feature music, games, food and fireworks starting at 4 p.m.  KFYR-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tugboat working on the new BNSF rail bridge project in the Bismarck-Mandan area sank Tuesday morning—BNSF confirmed the incident.  Bismarck Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • A Bismarck man was sentenced to five years for his role in a 2021 drug-conspiracy that led to the overdose death of a 31-year-old man - he must turn himself in on June 13 and is credited with roughly 14 months in custody.  Bismarck Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sixth-grader Lennon Hanson at Center-Stanton Elementary was named Bismarck Larks April Kid of the Month after she organized a school reading competition and a Kindness Bulletin Board—her teacher praised her leadership and kindness—while Lennon thanked those who helped her succeed.  KX News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The North Dakota Department of Water Resources and Game and Fish are urging water users to follow best practices—clean, drain, dry—when using watercraft to stop non-native species from spreading in local waters. The guidance aims to protect habitats, fisheries and infrastructure from environmental and economic harm.  KX News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring announced a grant program for county fair infrastructure projects that will award up to $100,000 to eligible fair associations for planning, design and construction—applications must be submitted electronically by 4 p.m. CT on May 30.  KX News
  • Wildfires that broke out over the weekend were mostly contained as the fires in Rolla and south of New Town were put out while the Belcourt blaze continued burning and is believed to have been started on purpose. Lawmakers ended their session Saturday morning after passing over 600 bills while keeping six extra days available, and Bismarck State College hosted a summit Monday on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People as meteorologists reported cooler temperatures for Tuesday.  KX News

HEALTH NEWS

  • NDHHS raised income limits for public health programs so that a family of four can now earn up to $59,478 and still qualify for WIC and special health services — the change took effect May 1.  KX News
  • CHI St. Alexius in Bismarck is celebrating its 140th anniversary today as staff and community members gathered for a Mass of Thanksgiving and flag-raising & Governor Armstrong issued a commemorative statement. The hospital treated its first patient on May 6th & began its legacy in a small hotel building with 25 beds.  KFYR-TV
