CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A North Dakota inmate (serving a life sentence for a 2017 murder) was convicted of spraying corrections officers with feces and urine (the case focused on his repeated assaults on staff). Bismarck Tribune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, National Record Store Day at Rhythm Records Music Cafe will feature the You Name it Festival with over 30 performers and a day-long concert from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the store opening at 12 p.m.; owner Gus Lindgren expects hundreds of customers to visit following last year's boost in sales. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fire crews are battling the Cedar River fire north of Lemmon, which burned over 6,000 acres and destroyed 8 outbuildings, while cleanup workers recovered 700 barrels from the Keystone oil spill—about 200 workers are on-site as the pipeline remains shut down. Meteorologist Andre Brooks said warm temperatures and rain are forecast this weekend to keep outdoor risks in check. KX News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, the State Water Commission approved over $34 million for 23 water infrastructure projects to improve water supply, dam remediation and flood control. The funds — which come from oil extraction tax revenues — will support sustainable water projects in local communities. KX News
- ➤ The Morton County Commission declared a fire emergency on April 10 and issued an immediate burn ban that will remain until June 1. The ban is due to severe drought conditions that keep grasses flammable+ officials advise residents to follow fire safety guidelines. KX News
- ➤ The Central Dakota Communications Center will observe National Public Safety Telecommunications Week from April 13 to 19 to honor telecommunicators who connect emergency calls with help in Bismarck — local leaders support the tribute. City of Bismarck
- ➤ The Army said Washburn native Private First Class Charles Reiser—killed on June 15, 1944 while supporting Marines in the Northern Mariana Islands—will be buried on April 23 at Arlington National Cemetery. KFYR-TV

- ➤ Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health Nutrition & Health Promotion Coordinator Katie Johnke was named the 2024 Hunger Relief Champion by Great Plains Food Bank. She will receive the award from CEO Melissa Sobolik on April 17th at 11 a.m. for her work helping feed local neighbors. City of Bismarck
