CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities have taken a Bismarck woman into custody after she was accused of delivering fentanyl that caused a 39-year-old man's death in 2022 nearly two years after an arrest warrant was issued. Bismarck Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The North Dakota Senate voted down a bill that would have lowered penalties for crimes involving small amounts of marijuana and THC. Sen. Janne Myrdal said North Dakota voters had already rejected legal recreational marijuana—a view supported by police even as some state attorneys favored easing court caseloads. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Senators John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Tim Kaine (D-Va.) today introduced bipartisan legislation to keep at least 150 wild horses free-roaming at Theodore Roosevelt National Park and to have a management plan ready within 120 days. The bill will also require annual public reports on the health and number of the horse herd. KX News
- ➤ FEMA canceled over $20 million in grants for disaster mitigation projects, leaving cities like Lincoln, Washburn and Fessenden to find new funding as long-planned initiatives face rising costs. Officials in Lincoln noted that a sewer regionalization project cost has doubled while local funds have already been used for critical planning work — state agencies now are exploring alternative support options. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ Summit Carbon Solutions sued landowners in South Dakota and North Dakota (filing over 200 lawsuits for survey access and property taking) for its nearly $9 billion carbon pipeline project spanning five states, but the project is in limbo after South Dakota banned eminent domain for carbon pipelines (a decision made amid strong local opposition). Locals and farmers remain divided over the pipeline as the legal battle continues. KX News
