CRIME NEWS

  • Ian Cramer, a Bismarck man, received three years of supervised probation on Monday for actions at Sanford Medical Center in December 2023 that preceded a high-speed chase which killed a Mercer County deputy—he is already serving a twenty-eight year prison sentence for the fatal crash.  Bismarck Tribune
  • On Monday, Ian Cramer, the son of Senator Kevin Cramer, was sentenced in Burleigh County court to 20 years (suspended) in prison plus three years of probation for charges of Theft, Criminal Mischief and Reckless Endangerment linked to the fatal car chase that killed Mercer County deputy Paul Martin in 2023.  KX News

  • Legacy High School's Stop the Cloud organization is hosting a carnival today to promote tobacco prevention on high school campuses (Cloud Free Carnival) that will offer games and prizes to help students learn about the dangers of vaping and other tobacco products.  KX News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologist Andre Brooks said a winter storm may bring bad weather while a meeting at Minot Air Force Base with Senator John Hoeven and General Thomas Bussiere confirmed plans to get the base ready for two new weapons systems. A lawsuit by the Standing Rock Sioux to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline was dismissed as the review goes on and tickets for the State Fair went on sale at 8:00 a.m.—the fair will feature concerts by Luke Bryan, Sawyer Brown and other acts plus fun events.  KX News
  • USDA funding freezes and layoffs have disrupted key projects for local farmers and nonprofits, forcing some contracts to continue without full backing while others, such as the Local Food Purchase Assistance and Local Food for Schools and Child Care programs, were terminated. FARRMS (Foundation for Agricultural and Rural Resource Management and Sustainability) and other partners now face delays and uncertainty as officials review funding, with some projects postponed until the next growing season.  Bismarck Tribune
  • The Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization is holding a public hearing at its regularly scheduled meeting to review a proposed amendment to the Arrive 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan. Community members can attend or send comments to Stephen Larson by 9:00 a.m. April 14 — requests for disabilities and language assistance can also be made.  City of Bismarck

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health said today it will join the National Day of Action to take down tobacco by working with advocates to expose Big Tobacco’s harmful practices (targeting youth and vulnerable groups). The initiative aims to boost public awareness and promote healthier choices.  KX News
