- ➤ A Novel Idea, a new bookstore, will open in the back of Morton Mandan Public Library in April so community members can buy used books at low prices year-round. The store is a joint effort with the public—contests helped choose its name and logo while local vendors will provide custom artwork and signs. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Today, lawmakers, lobbyists, and state leaders took part in the Capitol Classic Basketball Shoot-Out in Bismarck and raised more than $24,000 for Special Olympics North Dakota. The eight-team event—won by the State Executive Elected Officials with Governor Kelly Armstrong on the roster—has been a tradition since 1991 that unites participants during the legislative session. - ➤ The Bismarck Fire Department responded to a grass fire on the NE side of the city on March 19th (their call came in at 5:51 p.m.) and arrived at 5:55 p.m. to control a blaze that burned over three acres (no injuries were reported and the cause remains undetermined). City of Bismarck

- ➤ Today, Laughing Sun Brewery co-owner Mike Frohlich said the brewery is exploring an expansion that may use the lease option available in October 2026 to buy the adjacent space for larger live music shows and upscale catering events + the brewery will also launch a hard beverage line this spring that includes hard sodas and teas. - ➤ Oahu Hawaiian BBQ and Sushi Bar in Bismarck will officially close on March 31—its Facebook page says gift cards will be accepted until that date before a change in ownership and computer systems renders them void. KFYR-TV

- ➤ Mandan police arrested 71-year-old massage parlor owner Wiemen Peng on March 18 for promoting prostitution at Relax Body Work Spa after customers reported women performing sexual acts for tips — his bond is set at $15,000 and his next court hearing will take place on April 21. KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bismarck and Burleigh County are asking residents to complete a short online survey—due by April 10th—to update a disaster mitigation plan approved by FEMA. Their answers will help shape actions to keep the community safe. City of Bismarck
- ➤ City officials announced a $12.5 million project to expand East Century Avenue into five lanes by adding a 10-foot trail and a 6-foot sidewalk to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists; construction will begin in late May and most work will be finished by mid-August with some final touches continuing into next year—ensuring no extra cost for residents—and supporting long-term growth in Bismarck. - ➤ The North Dakota Senate Industry and Business Committee recommended against passing a bill that would require landlords to keep apartment temperatures no lower than 68 degrees from October 1 to April 30 after the House gave it a do-pass recommendation a month ago—some committee members argued that the rule could force tenants who favor open windows to move out.
