EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Nearly 1,000 ND firefighters are training at the 72nd Fire School at the State Fair Center in Minot this week (practicing over 60 classes including auto extraction and recertification) as full-time and volunteer crews prepare for emergencies; training continues today. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Bismarck State College has announced six semi-finalists in its search for a new president. The candidates (including interim president Dr. Dan Leingang) will visit campus from March 2 to March 4 and the board will choose the new leader on March 31, with the role starting July 1. KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Representative Julie Fedorchak visited the Bakken last week to meet with oil producers and service providers to discuss low production and plans for increased efficiency. She noted that oil numbers are stabilizing as industry and Washington work to create a more competitive environment. KFYR-TV
- ➤ India's Consul General visited Bismarck on Friday to meet Gov. Armstrong and local delegates about boosting economic ties in agriculture and energy. He will attend the Indian Film Festival at NDSU on Saturday (inviting students to enjoy Bollywood cinema). KFYR-TV
- ➤ Bismarck will display art & heritage signs downtown after receiving $10,000 from the North Dakota 250 commission to help celebrate America’s 250th anniversary in July. Cities statewide are joining the festivities as applications for more funding are accepted until April 1. KFYR-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sanford Health in Bismarck has seen a rise in mental health-related ER visits, with January reporting over 5,000 cases per 100,000 visits nationwide. The spike affects all ages and shifts with the seasons (with more depression in winter and heightened impulsive behaviors in summer). KFYR-TV
- ➤ North Dakota Game and Fish released its 2025 Chronic Wasting Disease test results on Feb. 27 at 4:01 p.m. in Bismarck, testing over 1,200 animals (eleven mule deer and five whitetail deer tested positive). KFYR-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ South Prairie-Max won the Class A, Region 3 Championship on Feb. 25, showing strong skill on the field + sparking local pride as fans celebrated the win. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Devils Lake native Grant Nelson signed a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets on Friday after strong play with the Long Island Nets (G-League), averaging 11.1 points per game. The former North Dakota Mr. Basketball is set to begin his NBA career soon. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Berthold won the Class B, Region 3 Championship on Feb. 25 and the team celebrated a hard-fought win in a regional contest. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Teams heading to the Class A girls basketball state tournament will compete in Jamestown from March 5 to 7 after four region champions were crowned on Thursday. Qualifier games on Saturday at Mayville State + Century High School give extra teams one last chance to qualify. KFYR-TV
