- ➤ Joe McKenzie, an 85-year-old newspaper carrier who delivered papers and smiles for 20 years, is finishing his final route today in Bismarck. He plans to celebrate retirement with a nap and a puzzle, leaving a lasting impression in his community. KFYR-TV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Kirkwood Mall sees more changes after recent store closings—T-Mobile on the south end will close and Zumiez will relocate to the space once leased by The Children’s Place by Feb. 18. KFYR-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A new federal tax credit called 45z (a federal tax incentive) will boost local biofuel production and create new jobs as farmers and producers plan to expand processing capacity in rural areas. The credit is designed to reduce export reliance and support local economies. KFYR-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mandan Public Schools is set to consider closing Custer Elementary School at the end of the school year, following a letter sent to parents on Friday. Bismarck Tribune
- ➤ Mandan High School seniors won awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition — the contest recognized their writing skill and creativity in honoring young talent in our community. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Alexander High School’s robotics team is heading to Bismarck this weekend for the state First Tech Challenge tournament as they finish building their robot Reuben. They will compete against 15+ teams and hope to earn a spot at international events later this year. KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kelly Armstrong said the White House plan to import more beef from Argentina sends the wrong message to local producers and will be raised at a national governors' meeting in DC next week; he also urged an investigation into potential price fixing by the major meat packers. KFYR-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ North Dakota’s ski jumping legend Casper Oimoen led Team USA in the 1932 and 1936 Olympics, won over 400 awards, and earned a spot in the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame + he also helped build the state capitol as a stone mason, inspiring locals. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Bismarck State College will host its final Mystics sporting event at the Armory this weekend as future games will move to the new Bavendick Center on campus. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Bismarck’s first Olympian, Britta Curl-Salemme, scored her first Olympic goal in Friday’s quarterfinal match against Italy as Team USA won 6-0. She now has five points through five games and the team will play in the semifinal on Monday at 9:40 a.m. KFYR-TV
